How A Marketing Funnel Paves The Way To Sales

Marketing FunnelIt can take time before a prospect becomes a customer, but without a marketing funnel it can take forever.

Meaning without a clear path, prospects may never find your sale!

Many people are familiar with funnels. Whether sales funnels, squeeze funnels, membership funnels, they’re one of the best ways to get sales.

We will give you a refresher on how they work, but focus in on some less obvious ways funnels can be used to make you as much money as they’ve made countless businesses.

1. How Customers Move Down A Marketing Funnel

A marketing funnel is a tool that tracks or (arguably) creates a customer journey from not knowing you at all, to becoming lifetime customers.

There are different ways to dice up the marketing funnel. The three primary stages are leads, Marketing Funnelprospects, and customers, or awareness, consideration, and conversion.

You can add in interest, intent, evaluation in the middle or loyalty and advocacy after conversion. Here’s an example.

Eight Marketing Funnel Stages With Activities

  1. Awareness – Lead Generation, Marketing Campaigns, Ads, Social Media.
  2. Interest – Engagement, Emails, Targeting Content.
  3. Consideration – Product Information, Specials, Email Campaigns, Free Trials
  4. Evaluation – Product Value Marketing, Testimonials, Proving You’re The Best
  5. Conversion – Completed Sales Transaction
  6. Repeat – Follow Up Marketing, Show Next Purchase, Ascension Plans
  7. Loyalty – Loyalty Programs, Strong Engagement, Personalization
  8. Advocacy – Customer Becomes Fan, Referall Programs, Endorsements, Sharing Reviews

Automation

To Be A Leader You Need Leads

So top of the funnel is the biggest opening and you need to fill it.

There are a ton of ways to get leads, but one of our favorite ways is to use marketing automation to lift the heavy load for you.

For instance, use search engines, Google display networks, YouTube, and social media ad platforms. Leverage ads on a variety of networks.

But remember the big picture.

The point is seeing leads turn into customers, then turn into fans that get you more leads!

It’s all about converting leads.

“Ultimately, the business that can spend the most to acquire a customer wins.”

Marketing Funnel~ Russel Brunson (Expert Secrets)

It’s hard to argue the value of automating lead generation.  Especially when the average landing page conversion rate is 2.35% and the top twenty five percent of companies are 5.31% or higher.

2. Where A Marketing Funnel Leads To Prospects

The best thing about a marketing funnel is sitting back anticipating each move. Besides a sale, Turning a lead into a prospect is the sweetest moment a business can experience.

You haven’t reeled them in, but they’re hooked. They’re considering and if you know sales, this is the moment you can breath.

SEO Content Strategy.Show them why you’re the best. Use email campaigns, and retargeting marketing. Show how your product solves their problems

You can also build trust in the middle of the funnel, which can eventually lead to loyalty. Use pull marketing and nurture them to your brand.

Keep giving value, use testimonials, free trials and prove you’re worth!

The Power Of Reciprocity

We could spend the entire time on the importance of giving value. And we do in our retargeting marketing blog, where we explore the science of re-engaging until we get the sale.

Just know that when a person shows interest and hesitates, It’s time to deliver value.Win them over, keep nurturing and thrill them with kindness.

3. When Your Marketing Funnel Nears The End

So you better believe the bottom funnel activity is fun. Right before you make the sale be sure to offer additional up-sells, and cross-sells.

Marketing FunnelSo many businesses don’t use this strategy. However it’s one of the easiest and hottest times to increase your average order value.

What if you don’t get the up-sell? Well, then make them a repeat customer!

Show them next logical purchases using nurturing campaigns or get them into a customer ascension plan.

What To Do If They Abandon Sale

Well, this takes them back to the middle of the funnel, but you treat this prospect like a pseudo customer. So we use an abandoned sale campaign. More simple and more direct.

Sometimes they just get distracted. Therefore they could use a little reassurance. Send them a quick reminder, “Oops, you left something in your cart. Here’s 15% off.”

And no matter how it goes, it never ends. The funnel is a circular customer journey with the goal of creating loyal fans that repeatedly buy and tell everyone about your brand.

4. Why A Marketing Funnel Has No End

So the ultimate sign of loyalty is advocacy. And our goal is to take a less obvious approach. Yes, use referral programs, get endorsements and get people sharing with the traditional tools.

But also think, instead of always convincing customers you’re the best all the time, try and focus on who your customers are and what makes them tick.

Marketing FunnelA fun way to get customer advocacy is by personalizing!

So let’s consider what they like, don’t like, and show them you share their values. To do this we can use demographics and research.

Demographic marketing and knowing customers pain is Key!

So talk about the problems and reinforce why your brand works so well for them. Create a community culture where they give testimonials and share stories on how they all feel the same.

So if you respect your customers, they’ll respect you and tell everybody about it. Once they start sharing, they get you leads and the bottom leads to the top and it never ends!
